Critique On One Of Georgia O'Keeffe's Flower Paintings
Jimson Weed, 1932
Line- The lines in this flower painting is curvy. The painting looks realistic, which tells us that this Jimson Weed may actually be a real flower.
Value- The value in this painting is mostly light. This is probably because Georgia O'Keeffe wanted the viewer to to have a bright and emotional feeling. I think she also drew the background using only two colours in order for us to focus on the flower.
Colour- The colour scheme in this picture is brilliant. The colours blue, white, yellow, and green makes the viewer comfortable. It was also creative on how she decided to draw light and dark colours, such as light green and dark green and light blue and dark blue.
Space- The space between the sky and the flower can tell us that the "Jimson Weed" is a big flower. Space in this painting also shows that the leaves are big compared to the flower.
Texture- The overall picture of the flower is very smooth. However, the stem and leaves look rough. I think Georgia O'Keeffe did this in order for the painting to look a bit more realistic.
Shape- This painting is definitely made up of organic shapes (The flowers, sky, clouds, stem and leaves).
Form- Form doesn't apply in this painting, since it's two-dimensional, but the flowers in this painting may look a bit three- dimensional.
